Cost: why four days of Mardi Himal cost 230 or 1,500 dollars – and what ends up on the bill

Between the cheapest and the most expensive Mardi package lies a factor of six, and the ridge is the same. The difference sits in four items: whether you start in Pokhara or in Kathmandu with bus or flight, whether meals are included (USD 100 to 150 over four days), whether a porter comes along (about USD 100, usually shared), and how many hotel nights, transfers and city tours are part of it. Knowing that, you can put a USD 230 frame and a USD 1,058 all-round package on the same bill – and see that the range ends up at 540 to 1,220 euros. Here are the list prices of all 38 packages, refreshed daily from the Viator data, the items that are missing, and four bills to the airport.

The list prices: 38 packages by price

All prices per person in US dollars, for tiered products the price for two; Viator shows them in euros at the daily rate. The table is refreshed daily from the Viator API; price date 26 September 2026. Sisne Rover appears three times (economy, standard, premium), ABC Trek twice (guide, lodge and permit only for 300 or the package for 650). The days count from Pokhara or from Kathmandu – the packages from Kathmandu contain two to six days of approach, hotel and city.

What is missing from the lists – and what it costs

Meals: A dal bhat costs NPR 500 to 700 at Deurali, 800 to 1,000 at High Camp; breakfast 400 to 700, tea 100 to 200, a bottle of water 100 below and 250 up top. CAN Travels budgets USD 25 a day, Dadhi Ram Thapa 30, Crystal Holidays NPR 3,500 – over four days USD 100 to 130, over five 125 to 150. That applies to the twelve frames; with My Dream Adventure, Pokhara Adventure, Nomad Mountain Club and ABC Trek nothing at all is said about food, which means the same.

Porter: CAN Travels quotes USD 25 a day for a porter carrying for two guests – USD 100 for four days, 50 shared. He is included with Nepal Wilderness, Base Camp Hike, Everest Trekking Routes and the all-round packages, not with 26 products. On a four-day trek with six to eight kilos in the pack many do without; anyone walking the ridge in snow is glad of free hands.

Approach and hotel: The tourist bus Kathmandu–Pokhara costs USD 10 to 15 each way, the flight 120 to 130. A mid-range night in Lakeside USD 20 to 30, in Thamel 25 to 40. Booking from Pokhara, add two nights there, before and after the trek.

Permits: The ACAP permit costs NPR 3,000 (about 20 euros) for foreigners, the TIMS card 2,000; both are included with 29 of the 38 packages and with the other nine not mentioned, not excluded. Arriving at the post without a permit costs double.

Visa and insurance: USD 30 for 15 days is enough for a trek from Pokhara, 50 for 30 days for the all-round packages. Insurance must cover trekking to 5,000 m and helicopter rescue; Himalayan Recreation demands proof on the first day. From about 50 euros for two weeks.

Tips and extras: USD 10 to 15 a day for the guide, 5 to 8 for the porter, in an envelope at the end. Hot shower NPR 200 to 300, charging 200 to 500, wifi 300 to 500, blanket 100 – USD 30 to 50 over four days.

Where you save and where you do not

The frame just about pays for two. CAN Travels 5 days (230 for two) plus food (≈ USD 125) plus a shared porter (≈ 60) comes to about USD 415 – against 500 with Nepal Wilderness including sleeping bag, microspikes, private car and private room. Alone it tips: CAN 270 plus 125 plus 100 for a whole porter is 495, so the same. The frame pays for groups of four or more (CAN 200, Crystal 195, My Dream Adventure 210) and for anyone going without a porter anyway.

From Pokhara instead of Kathmandu. Trek Around (533 from Kathmandu, seven days) and Nepal Wilderness (500 from Pokhara) include almost the same on the trek; the surcharge buys a hotel night, transfers and the trip to Pokhara, which costs USD 50 to 60 individually. Taking the bus yourself saves USD 150 to 250 on the nine- and ten-day packages – and loses the airport pickup.

Three classes with Sisne Rover. Economy (413 for two) has meals 'fixed by the guide', standard (567) a limited menu, premium (867) private room, free menu and tea. The difference between economy and standard is USD 154 for four days of menu; if you eat what there is – and there is always dal bhat – take economy.

Do not save on insurance with rescue (a helicopter from High Camp costs USD 2,500 to 4,000) or on a fifth day if you do not know how you cope with altitude: with CAN it costs USD 60 less than the four-day trek because it goes to Lumre, with the others 50 to 100 more.

Questions about cost

Why does the same package cost more alone?

Because guide, jeep and room cannot be shared. CAN charges USD 30 to 80 more, My Dream Adventure 140, Sisne Rover 150 to 200, Himalayan Recreation and Dadhi Ram Thapa 100, Mission Himalaya and Alpine Club 100 to 200. 21 products charge the same price from one person – among them Nepal Wilderness, Magic Himalaya, Peace Himalaya, Base Camp Hike and all fixed-price all-round packages.

What does a porter cost if he is not included?

CAN Travels quotes USD 25 a day for a porter for two guests, so USD 100 for four days; agencies in Pokhara arrange porters for USD 20 to 25 a day including food and lodging. Plus tips, about USD 5 to 8 a day.

How much cash do I take?

There is no ATM and no card payment on the trek; the last machine is in Pokhara. With full board, NPR 15,000 to 20,000 covers drinks, showers, charging and tips; with the frames add 12,000 to 15,000 for four days of food. Tips for guide and porter can also be in dollars.

Are the Viator prices the same as booking direct?

Mostly yes, sometimes not: Himalaya Trip writes in its description that booking on its own website is cheaper. In return Viator gives free cancellation up to 24 hours before with 31 of the 38 products and payment in euros. Booking direct usually means a bank transfer in advance.
