Cost: why a week in Langtang costs 290 or 1,900 dollars – and what ends up on the bill

Between the cheapest and the dearest Langtang package lies a factor of six, and the trek is the same. The difference sits in four items: whether meals are included (USD 150 to 200 over six days), whether a porter comes along (around USD 140, usually shared), whether you travel by jeep instead of bus, and how many hotel nights, transfers and city tours in Kathmandu are part of it. If you know that, you can bring a 290-dollar frame and a 1,100-dollar all-round package onto the same bill – and see that the range ends up at USD 870 to 1,500. Here are the list prices of all 47 packages, refreshed daily from the Viator data, the items that are missing, and four bills up to the airport.

What is missing from the lists – and what it costs

Meals: A dal bhat costs NPR 600 to 800 at Lama Hotel, 900 to 1,100 at Kyanjin; breakfast 400 to 700, tea 100 to 200. Three meals a day come to USD 25 to 35, over six trekking days 150 to 200 – the item that Tours and Treks, Cordial, Global Holidays, Nepal Mountain Club and the basic options of Trek & Adventure and The Everest Holiday leave out. Namaste Nepal names USD 25 a day as a guide. Porter: USD 20 a day per Tours and Treks Nepal, 140 for seven days, 70 shared between two guests. Plus tips. If you carry your own pack, you have 1,000 m of ascent with a full pack on the way to Lama Hotel and again to Langtang. Permits: National park permit NPR 3,000 and TIMS card NPR 2,000, together around USD 37 (Nepal Tourism Board, as of 25 September 2026); included in 40 packages, not mentioned by Bold Himalaya, Pariwar, Alpine Luxury and Hiking Adventure Treks. The permit is sold at the Tourism Board in Kathmandu or at the park gate in Dhunche; the operator arranges it with a passport copy and photo. Hotel in Kathmandu: 3-star in Thamel USD 30 to 60 a night; the seven-day products include none, Ace includes four. Transport: Included by all except Annapurna Foothills and Pariwar; if you go yourself, you pay NPR 1,200 to 1,500 on the bus, 2,000 to 2,500 in a shared jeep, USD 160 to 200 for a private jeep (operator figures, December 2025). Visa: 30 days on arrival USD 50, 15 days 30 (Gokyo Treks still says 40). Insurance: with helicopter rescue to 5,000 m, USD 60 to 110 for two weeks; explicitly compulsory with Base Camp Adventure, Himalayas On Foot and Mountain Hike Nepal. Tips: USD 10 to 15 a day for the guide, 5 to 8 per porter and day, shared by the group – for two guests and seven days around USD 70 to 110 per person; Ace and Outshine write “expected”. On the mountain: hot shower USD 3 to 5, charging 2 to 4 per device, Wi-Fi 3 to 5, water 1 to 3 a litre; over six days 40 to 80 dollars. Nepal High Trek and Nature Explore supply treated water, Base Camp Adventure and Himalayas On Foot an oximeter.

Where you save and where you do not

The frame just about pays off for two. Tours and Treks (290 for two) plus food (≈ USD 180) plus shared porter (≈ 70) comes to around USD 540 – less than Himalayan Recreation (599) with jeep and without the bother of paying for every meal separately and carrying rupees. Alone it tips: 390 plus 180 plus 140 is 710, more than Nepal High Trek (555) or Magical Nepal (698) with everything in. The jeep is worth the premium if you do not pay it yourself: twelve packages travel by jeep, and Himalayan Recreation at 599 for two is cheaper than many bus packages. Hotel nights in the package cost more than booked yourself: Ace (1,080 for two) against Magical Nepal (698) plus four nights in Thamel (≈ 180) plus porter (≈ 70) plus city tour (≈ 40) – the premium of around USD 90 buys pickup, farewell dinner and the certainty that someone is waiting at the airport. For a first trip to Nepal that can make the difference. Do not save on the second night at Kyanjin (the summit day is also the acclimatisation day), on insurance, or on the porter if you cannot get your pack under ten kilos. Cash in rupees: Beyond Syabrubesi there is no ATM, at Kyanjin some lodges take cards with a surcharge; take NPR 15,000 to 25,000 for extras, tips and emergencies, with frame packages 40,000 to 50,000.

Questions about cost

Why does the same package cost more alone?

Because guide, jeep and room cannot be shared. Tours and Treks and Cordial charge USD 100 more, Mosaic, Everest Trekking Routes, Himalayan Adventure, Mountain Mart, Mount Face, Global Holidays and Incredible Treks do not take solo travellers at all. 15 packages charge the same price from one person – among them Nepal High Trek, Magical Nepal, Nepal Lion, Base Camp Adventure, Wonder Himalaya and The Everest Holiday.

Is the full-board option at Trek & Adventure worth it?

It costs USD 340 more for 24 meals – on the mountain you would pay USD 150 to 200 for them yourself. The option is only worth it if you do not want to handle rupees; arithmetically the basic option plus food is cheaper. The Everest Holiday is different: the standard option (579) costs only USD 90 more than the basic (489) and includes beds and three meals – clearly the better choice.

Do I have to buy the permit myself?

With 40 packages the operator arranges it in advance with a passport copy and photo. If you buy it yourself: national park permit NPR 3,000 at the Nepal Tourism Board in Kathmandu (Bhrikutimandap) or at the park gate in Dhunche, TIMS NPR 2,000 at the Tourism Board or through the agency; children under ten pay no park entry.

How much cash do I need?

With full-board packages NPR 15,000 to 25,000 for showers, charging, Wi-Fi, drinks, cheese and tips; with frame packages 40,000 to 50,000, because every meal is paid in cash. The last ATM is in Kathmandu or Dhunche (unreliable); there is none in Syabrubesi or Kyanjin.
